Many years ago, as a young collector with limited resources, I remember visiting very frequently this very special vintage watch store in town (Singapore), who was famous for their high grade, best condition, unusual, highly sought after timepieces and collectibles. Those visits were really PURE VISITS with NO PURCHASES as I was still a student then.      I remember there were many nice and unusual watch displays that I wished I could afford, and this RARE ROLEX PRINCE CATALOGUE, nicely framed and charmingly hung on the wall of the store, was one of them.... and IT WAS NOT FOR SALE !!!    Years gone and the watch store had ceased its business and I was lucky enough to have acquired this RARE ITEM.  Safely kept it in my collection for more than 15 years and now up for your acquisition.

EXTREMELY RARE 1930s ROLEX PRINCE WATCH CATALOGUE/BOOKLET


A 100% ORIGINAL 100% AUTHENTIC Promotional Literature for the Rolex Prince from the early 1930s. Printed by ALEXANDER CLARK CO,LTD. 125 Fenchurch Street E.C.3.   TITLED: The Rolex Prince A record of Progress and Precision.

SIZE: Measuring 18 inches by 9 inches. DOUBLE SIDED, folded into 3 parts (referred to below as PART 1/2/3) to form a catalogue.   CONDITION: It is more than 85 years old BUT is in VERY VERY good condition and looks so beautiful in my show room now !!! A very important part of Rolex history. ONLY some very LIGHT signs of wear and the natural folding marks (it is folded into 3 parts as a catalogue/booklet) are visible. This item is very well preserved because it was in the tender care of a very experienced, serious and famous watch dealer/collector who gave up his business in vintage watches in Singapore a while ago. To me, he was the BEST VINTAGE WATCH DEALER in Singapore Vintage Watch History !!!!!!!!

SIDE A: Titled - the Watch for Men of Distinction : Showing three different Prince models filled with important and interesting literatures and details surrounding the PRINCE model.   PART 1: Shows a Prince Watch with a paragraph that reads: Like a Real Prince, this super grade Rolex stands out among all other watches for sheer merit and distinction ......   PART 2: The center picture shows a group of gentlemen and ladies gathered around a long table with a fine gentleman standing smiling with his left hand next to the Rolex Prince Box, guess he had just been presented with a beautiful ROLEX PRINCE watch. Lucky Chap, but I reckon he must have done some good work to deserve the treatment, probably one of the good deeds as shown in the paragraph titled: Occasions for which the presentation of a Rolex Prince are particularly favoured.   PART 3: Titiled : It's Perfect Accuracy Showing another Prince model with a paragraph describing its accuracy and various features of the watch.      If you look closely, there are some pencil markings on the top corner of this part, which is SIMILAR to the markings (words, position, style, handwriting) on the pictures of the same item shown in Mr James Dowling's "THE BEST OF TIME ROLEX WRISTWATCHES- AN AUTHORISED HISTORY". According to the previous owner, who was one of the best and famous vintage watch dealers in Singapore during the 90s, it is the same item featured.

SIDE B: Titled - The Rolex Prince - A Record of Progress and Precision: PART 1: Show the Prince movement followed by POINTS OF INTEREST detailing various interesting facts about the movement that make the watch so collectible.  PART 2: Shows a picture of the Certificate supplied with each PRINCE watch.   PART 3: The Rolex Prince - A Record of Progress and Precision. - this is probably the front page of the catalogue when the whole double sided page is folded into a small booklet.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR SHIPMENT: The whole catalogue is double sided, folded into 3 parts. previously framed up with a wooden frame and covered with 2 pieces of glass.  For shipment purposes, the wooden frame and glass will NOT be included for 2 reasons:     1. to avoid any damage to the catalogue in case of broken glass during shipment and  2. to cut down the weight of the item for shipment purposes.  It will be shipped in a plastic tube to protect this extremely RARE literature.

This handsome Rolex display looks good on its own & better as a poster or picture frame of your favourite Rolex Watch.   Made of gilt brass, partially painted in green soft enamel.  Large Rolex crown at the tip of the display.    The back of the display has an wooden easel allowing it to tilt at a photo frame angle.   The wooden easel is held onto to the main brass body with pins/nails inserted into the tiny holes on each side of the cut-out window (currently held together with 4 newer pins).  The easel allows the display to tilt at a very nice angle, allowing perfect & proud visual connection when displayed on the counter or table.   Measuring 26.5cm by 26.5cm excluding the Rolex Crown.  The Photo section is 19cm by 19cm.  Overall very very very nice vintage condition with time related natural aging on the wood, gilt brass & some very light signs of wear on the green enamel which adds vintage charm & evidencing its age.

Very nice classic stainless steel ROLEX DATEJUST Ref: 1625 with gorgeous yellow gold engine-turned ^TURN-O-GRAPH^ bezel, Circa 1966.   First introduced in 1950s and affectionately referred to by many as ^Thunderbird^ as US Air Force awarded the same model to pilots returning from war with considerable decoration.

D/  Original pearly white porcelain dial with arabic numerals.  Original blued steel skeleton hands.  Sweeping seconds hand.  C/  Beautiful condition original sterling silver case with hinged back case fully signed & hallmarked by ROLEX.   In 1905, Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law Alfred Davis founded "Wilsdorf and Davis" in London. Their main business at the time was importing Hermann Aegler's Swiss movements to England and placing them in quality watch cases made by Dennison and others. These early wristwatches were sold to jewellers, who then put their own names on the dial, which explains the lack of logo on the dial. The earliest watches from Wilsdorf and Davis were also usually hallmarked "W&D" inside the caseback, as in this one.  In 1908, Wilsdorf registered the trademark "Rolex" and opened an office in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.
