A LANGE & SOHNE 65MM WAFFEN-SS
WW2 + MUSEUM ARCHIVE

In 1940 the offices of the Waffen-SS ordered Lange & Söhne, to develop an observation watch for measuring purposes with stop function for the second hand and 1/5 sec luminous indication. This led to this large diameter of the dial. For negative photographic the seconds should additional be mirrored. After some first items in silver case there should be supplied 10 watches per month starting in march 1941.

The document shows 22 of these watches with nickeled brass case of 65 mm delivered 22.10.1943 to the Waffen-SS Berlin.

ORIGINAL IWC BIG PILOT "Grosse Fliegeruhr" IN BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL CONDITION

An ultra rare original IWC Big Pilots watch, from the 1940s WWII era. Large 55mm case, largest movement Cal 52T ever made by IWC, therefore the nickname, BIG PILOT.

The model itself is named ‘Grosse Fliegeruhr’ and it was one of the watches delivered to the Luftwaffe, the German Air Force, who armed their pilots with a wristwatch that was accurate, robust, and easy to read during missions. The watch’s earliest active duty came during the Battle of Britain or operation SeaLion (August 1940-May 1941).

Important facts about this piece is that its movement & case numbers are within the range of movements numbers 1.013.801 and 1.015.000, and case numbers between 1.033.201 and 1.034.200, which were considered correct for the 1940 Grosse Fliegeruhr. Case number: FL 23883, 1.033.321 Movement number: 1.013.921.

Other important details on the watch includes unique code engravings from the days of active duty including the inside case back which is engraved with ‘B-Uhr: Beobachtungs-Uhr’ (German for Navigation Watch). There’s also flight department numbers the watch was assigned to. In total there were only 1,200 pieces made with 1,000 of them siupplied to the German Air Force. The remaining 200 were used for English deck watches.

One of the most collectible vintage Longines models (such as the Lindbergh etc) which some collectors have nicknamed them as the "Daytonas" of Longines as their values (in the range of SINGAPORE$45,000 to $50,000) approximate that of some vintage Rolex Daytonas. In my humble opinion, this one is "richer" in many ways ... its historical value, rarity & condition ...it is amazing that a watch of 73 years old is still in such good shape... very well loved & taken care of. Comes with confirmation from Longines Archives & Documentation Department certifying that this watch was invoiced on 29 May 1937 to Messrs. Witnauer & Co., USA. Longines watches were imported into the U.S. and Canada during the nineteenth century and at least as early as 1884. Up into the 1890s, all of the Longines watches were brought into the U.S. and Canada through J. Eugene Robert & Co., 30 Maiden Lane, New York City, NY. However, by 1895, their importation was handled by A. Wittnauer Co.,. On each of the watches thus imported to North America, the name "Wittnauer" is stamped on the dial.

Can you remember how your heart throbbed when you found the right one and fell in love immediately? Like the time has stopped for a breathless instant..... Well, I did recently ...... and it is precisely the same feeling I had when I saw this watch..... A 55mm Beobachtungs-Uhren ("B-Uhr", observer's watch), by WEMPE, Circa 1940s. The modesty of B-Uhr's outward appearance often camouflaged its inner perfection. These famous high grade B-Uhrs were given stringent Chronometer testing before being issued to the Pilots and navigators of the WWII German Luftwaffe (Airforce). This one on the left is the rarer version with TYPE A dial (without inner chapter). In near mint condition throughout. Comes with original long leather strap. Presented in its Original WEMPE signed presentation cardboard box!!

WELL, HOW OFTEN DOES ONE GET TO SEE A REAL VINTAGE TIMEPIECE LIKE THIS ONE HERE BY WEMPE, PACKED WITH SO MUCH HISTORICAL VALUE, LIKE NEW IN ITS ORIGINAL CARDBOARD BOX ???

I HAVE HANDLED QUITE A FEW OF THESE B-UHRs AND TO ME, THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST VALUABLE OF THEM ALL...MAY BE NOT IN THE REAL DOLLAR & CENTS FORM BUT THE INTRINSIC VALUES BEHIND THE ORIGIN OF THE WATCH AND THE WAY IT CAME INTO MY POSSESSION. Well, guess my late mum was right when she taught me that "NICE THINGS HAPPEN TO KIND PEOPLE". Priceless !! A TRUE MUSEUM QUALITY PIECE. And you know what? I just love the loud ticking sound that emanates from the depth of this timelessly beautiful 55mm case. Wore one to the movie once, and the movie goers beside me must be wondering, what is that ? A TIME BOMB ? .....Well, to some, almost. To me, it is therapeutic !!

JAEGER LECOULTRE MARK X MILITARY WATCH WITH BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL DIAL

While the other manufacturers of Mark X (Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, IWC, Lemania, Longines, Omega, Record, Timor, Vertex) simply used their best complying stock movement, JLC actually designed a new caliber, Caliber 479 used exclusively in their Mark X watches. The population of both IWC and Omega's military and standard watches housing Cal. 83(IWC) and 30T2 (Omega) movements respectively probably runs into the millions, JLC's Caliber 479 is believed to be closer to ONLY 10,000 !!!!

OMEGA WORLD WAR 2 BRITISH ARMY/MILITARY WATCH CA.1940s

A striking w w w (wrist watch waterproof) OMEGA WORLD WAR II BRITISH ARMY /MILITARY WRIST WATCH CAL 30 T 2, Circa 1940s.

D/ MINT CONDITION refinished black dial with luminous markers (with numerals 3,6,9 and 12) professionally restored/refurbished to impeccable condition. The extra Large seconds register provides more accurate reading of time, especially seconds, which is vital for any successful military mission. As they say, every second counts on the battle field. Dial is signed with Omega logo, Arrow Mark and SWISS MADE. Original OMEGA military BROAD hands set in mint condition with luminous. C/ 100% Original Full stainless steel screw back case in EXCELLENT condition. Full Military ordinance number on the outer back case with a military arrow. Inner case back is also fully hallmarked and referenced. Fixed lugs evidencing its age and authenticity. The reinforced case is a lot thicker than that found on civilian Omega watches from the same era. The six grooves on the waterproof case back, screw down and lock perfectly and tightening down smoothly into the case body. As with all watches officially issued by the British armed forces, this one is signed on the rear with its type and reference number, together with the evocative military broad arrow emblem. Present on this watch we are offering here is the Full Military ordinance number on the outer back case with a military arrow. Inner case back is also fully hallmarked by Omega and referenced with the exact same case ref number. One of the most interesting features about military watches is that in most cases, issue records are kept by the Army, Navy and RAF that can identify a particular watch from the details above to a particular serviceman that has been issued with the watch. Fixed lugs for the military strap to go through, thus providing a stronger hold (than the normal flexible pins fixed on civilian watches) to rough out through the critical condition during war time. This is an important feature of a military issue watch, evidencing its age and authenticity as an army watch issued for the war. Case measures 35 mm (not including the crown) x 46 mm lug to lug x 12 mm thick. M/ Original OMEGA signed CAL. 30T2, 15 JEWELS mechanical winding movement in very clean condition. Fully signed and hallmarked. The original movement holder still intact.

An extremely nice LONGINES Center Seconds 0.900 Sterling Silver Wrist Watch with Lindbergh type silver bezel with blue enamel numerals. PERFECT enamel dial. Comes with various papers documenting the original owner, JOHN GAZE's journey in the airforce :

Birth cert dated 23 Oct 1902 RAF Certificate of Service & Discharge stating that he joined the airforce at the age of 15 years 159 days. He was a Page Boy before his Royal Flying Corps (R.F.C) Service from 6 Dec 17, entering the RAF on 1 April 18. Original photograph of John Gaze in his RFC uniform, with hand written message on the back consoling his mum & telling her not to worry so much... RAF Character reference certificate dated 9.11.23 Temporary landing permit 9.5.40 Letter to Mrs Gaze from the Marine Superintendents Office dated 26.7.1940 informing her that John's ship "LEO" had been bombed & sunk by enemy action in the English Channel & that he was in hospital injured... Identity card dated 29.10.43 Shore leave pass dated 13.9.45

D/ Original porcelain dial in beautiful condition. Arabic Numerals, blued steel hands with center sweep seconds hand. C/ Original sterling silver case with reference number 5039285 triple-signed on both the hinged case backs and on the movement. Outer case back is engraved John "bull" Gaze 39 Squadron Royal Air Force. The Inner hinged back also has very nice original hallmarks with dedications. Very nice and cute original EXTRA LARGE large onion crown for ease of handling by the pilot with gloves on. Smaller onion crown locking the bezel when not in use. Fixed lugs fitted with its original charming old strap. M/ Original cal.1162N gilt movement with centre seconds. IWC MARK XI RAF PILOTS WATCH
ONE OF THE FIRST BATCH ISSUED IN 1948

In 1948, a celebrity was launched : the by now legendary Mark XI from IWC. The simple, classic appearance of the watch guaranteed it a special place in the history of pilot's watches from the beginning. Its cachet has never waned and, to this day, IWC lovers all over the world leave no stone unturned in their search for one of watchmaking's greatest prizes. You are looking at one issued to the the Royal Air Force pilots, circa 1948 - FROM THE FIRST BATCH.

D/ NEAR MINT Condition Original dial with full numeric luminous markers. Signed INTERNATIONAL WATCH CO SWISS, Arrow and encircled T emblem (Ministry of Defense specification for tritium). Based on "Wristwatches History of a Century's Development" 4th edition, there is a caption by the Mark XI that says, "...before delivery, every Mk XI is tested for 648 hours under extreme conditions. Essentially the tests were the traditional chronometer tests involving different positions and temperatures. They lasted fifteen days. As a watch passed its tests, it was released for service. As these were military issue watches, no chronometer certificates were issued.

An extremely RARE & beautiful original condition Beobachtungs-Uhren ("B-Uhr", observers watch) with a diameter of 55mm excluding crown, made for the WWII German Luftwaffe (Airforce) by STOWA (i.e. Walter Storz) of Pforzheim, circa 1940s. These famous high grade B-Uhrs were given stringent Chronometer testing before being issued to the pilots and navigators of the Luftwaffe.

D/ Original TYPE A dial evenly aged with charming patina. Full arabic numerals. 100% original broad blued steel hands & original long sweep seconds hand. C/ Housed in its original snap back case with reference number FI 23883 at the side with a diameter of 55 mm & fully hallmarked and signed with correct reference number on the outer & inner sides of the case back matching the same reference on the movement. A VERY NICE CONDITION Heuer Bundeswehr Chronograph, built to specifications for the German armed forces in the late 1960s and early 1970s. At 42mm diameter and 12mm thickness, this is a well-proportioned contemporary-sized chronograph, and its purposeful military design is timeless. Comes with its original leather strap with Bund Specifications.

D/ Original matte-BLACK dial with white scripts and luminous markings, a model of functional simplicity. Original Hands. Signed HEUER 3H SWISS. C/ Original Case measures 42mm excluding crown. Markings engraved on the back refer to the Bundeswehr specifications. The four set-screws attach the top part of the case and bezel to the back, pressing the crystal and gasket into place, while the movement is cradled inside the back. The front-loading 2-part case is stainless steel, brushed and matted except for the polished back, and the bidirectional bezel turns smoothly. A very rare & important historical piece - supplied by the Seikosha watch company to the pilots of the Imperial Japanese Navy, Ca 1941. Worn by the Kamikaze troop (see the exact example worn by the pilot in the pictures).

D/ Original matte black dial with large luminous markers. Signed with a luminous word " 時 " which means "time". Look closer & you will see some other Japanese characters in black scripts that read : ( 一日卷) 飛行時計 which literally means (one day winding) Flying Time Equipment/Instrument. Original hands set. It looks upside down? Well that is because it is meant to be worn on the neck thus the "reverse" position of the markers 1 to 12. C/ Original case in very good condition considering its age and the actions it has seen. Original crown. M/ Original Seikosha mechanical winding movement keeps good time. EXTREMELY RARE GALLET Stainless steel 2 registers chronograph with military 24 hours indication. Circa 1920s.

Early in the morning on May 20, 1927 Charles A. Lindbergh took off in The Spirit of St. Louis from Roosevelt Field near New York City. Flying northeast along the coast, he was sighted later in the day flying over Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. From St. Johns, Newfoundland, he headed out over the Atlantic, using only a magnetic compass, his airspeed indicator, and luck to navigate toward Ireland. The flight had captured the imagination of the American public like few events in history. When he landed, less than 34 hours after his departure from New York, Lindbergh became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. What we present here is the ORIGINAL LONGINES Lindbergh (NOT THE RECENT REISSUE) conceived and sketched by Charles A Lindbergh himself as a navigational aid which he submitted to the director of Longines watch company in New York, who was a friend of his and very interested in both aeronautics and watchmaking and together they produced this LINGBERGH ORIGINAL - One of the most collectible watches in aviation history! This RARE LINDBERGH ORIGINAL measures 47mm excluding and 55mm including crown.

The scarcity of IWC version and its price tag signifies the potential of the other makes. The three we have here are made by Lange & Sohne (in the middle) and Laco. I was looking for any one of these as a Xmas gift for myself in 2006, and I got 3 of them. Well, some guys have all the luck !!!! Love the look of the watch, have worn all 3 three of them separately and Man...don't they look good !!! Although more than 60 years old, they make many LARGE SIZE current model watches look so pale when you put them side by side....full of vintage charm with great historical value. A. LANGE & SOHNE, THE FIRST ONE. . .

WELL, THIS IS THE ONE THAT STARTED IT ALL, MY OBSESSION WITH THE B-UHRS, that is. Acquired in 1990s.

Observation watches were a specialty of Lange & Sohne, who produced these large, high quality wristwatches for the Luftwaffe circa 1939. These watches were worn around the arm of the flying leather suit on long leather straps. Using a pocket watch movement with centre seconds. The fully luminous black dial has an inner 12-hour ring read by reference to the short stubby hour hand, while the circumference is graduated for the seconds and numbered at every five-minutes points.

This piece was worn by a Navigator during the World War, and imagine how many of these fighter jets survived during the air fights. This was the victorious piece and it was probably one of the targets of the soldier standing next to it too....... :O) Look at the pictures for the fantastic condition this watch is in. This Watch is numbered ° 214099 ", housed in a huge Steel snap back Case FI 23883 with a diameter of 55 mm. This is something that not many military watch collectors have seen. My first Seikosha Kamikaze, acquired in 1990s.

Large wristwatch is supplied by the Seikosha watch company to pilots of the Imperial Japanese Navy, ca 1941. Excellent case with no dings/dents. Museum quality from our heirloom collections. LONGINES GREENLANDER CIRCA 1950s

British military issue Longines wrist watch Circa 1950s. Highly sought after model and known within watch collecting circles as the "Greenlander" as it was specially developed to be used by the British armed forces taking part in the British North Greenland Expedition between 1952 & 1954. The British North Greenland Expedition was a major military exercise held between July 1952 and July 1954. The British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force all took part. It's purpose was to train service personnel in Arctic conditions and to carry out a series of important scientific experiments.

While the other manufacturers of Mark X (Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, IWC, Lemania, Longines, Omega, Record, Timor, Vertex) simply used their best complying stock movement, JLC actually designed a new caliber, Caliber 479 used exclusively in their Mark X watches. The population of both IWC and Omega's military and standard watches housing Cal. 83(IWC) and 30T2 (Omega) movements respectively probably runs into the millions, JLC's Caliber 479 is believed to be closer to ONLY 10,000 !!!!

D/ Original Black Dial is signed JAEGER LECOULTRE with Broad Arrow. Painted arabic Numerals, luminous Dots, Original luminous Hands, Auxiliary Second. C/ Original matted Metal Case with screwed Stainless Steel Back case screw back case with fixed lug bars. THE WATCH - A GLASHUTTE TUTIMA vintage Military Chronograph ACTUALLY worn by a German Pilot during the world war 2 !!!! Look at the back case where the NAxx logo is clearly engraved along with the reference number and the Pilot's name. The exact watch was worn by the Pilot during the World War 2 and was subsequently presented to him when he completed his 100th flights. An extremely brave & good Pilot he was as he went on to earn the honor of completing his 150th flights, for which he was given a silverware with his name and the number of flights i.e. 150 engraved on the silver ware. He subsequently went on to complete his 200th flights during the war and was presented with the highly sought after A. LANGE & SOHNE 55mm Beobachtungs-Uhren ("B-Uhr", observer's watch) !!!!!!!! Look at the pictures of the case back where his name and number of flights i.e. 200 is clearly engraved on the case back. D/100% Original aged Black dial with 2 registers. Original hand sets. C/ 100% Original case with chromplated top and stainless steel back. the top case is showing some brassing. Well, the guy wore this watch for more than 100 flights during the war and had left significant historical evidence on the watch !!!! M/ 100% original mechanical winding movement.

THE DOCUMENTATION - Well, besides the highly collectible watch itself, you will also get the extremely important documentation that comes with it. The folder contains pictures of the Watch (100th flight), The Silverware (150th) and the A. Lange & Sohne B-Uhr (200th). You only get the TUTIMA. To prove that the above were from the WW2, extracts from the Military registers are catalogued in the folder which show that the name of the Pilot and the period he served in the Military matched perfectly. The folder also includes many black and white pictures of the Pilot. Quite a handsome fellow he was. There are also many pictures documenting his time in the service with valuable pictures of award ceremony, his wife, pals and comrades etc. There are altogether 24 pages in this folder, which makes this watch so much more collectible than any other Hanhart Chronograph. OMEGA BRITISH MILITARY RAF 53

An EXTREMELY RARE AND HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE Omega British military 1953 ROYAL AIRFORCE PILOTS watch. 100% Original UNPOLISHED UNABUSED CONDITION. This watch model is affectionately referred to by many as Omega ’53 as this model was made and issued for only one year, you guessed it - 1953 !!! Regarded by many as the most collectible Omega military watch (many called it THE PILOTS WATCH) and highly sought after by collectors amongst the other few military watches such as IWC or JLC. Manufacturing of this watch was commissioned by British military and deemed as a "no compromise" TOOL WATCH. The watch was designed to be durable, rugged, accurate, reliable, legible, and able to operate as an instrument under extreme conditions. Read on to see how this was done.

D/ Good condition dial with light signs of wear. The watch is typical military and has a mat black dial, contrasting white markers, luminous hands and hour marks. It is plain and simple, designed for maximum legibility, The extra Large/broad original hands set provides more accurate reading of time, especially seconds, which is vital for any successful military mission. As they say, every second counts on the battle field. The hands including the sweep seconds hand are all original. Dial is signed with Omega logo, T in a circle and FAT Arrow Mark. Original domed Crystal with light scratches, we have not polished it to leave it as original as possible. C/ Original Large Size FULL Stainless steel case with water proof screw back case. Measuring 37 mm excluding crown, 40 mm including crown. Lug to lug is 48mm and man, it is 13 mm in thickness and feels so great to hold and feel so secured when strapped on your wrist. The reinforced case is a lot thicker than that found on civilian Omega watches from the same era. The six grooves on the waterproof case back, screw down and lock perfectly and tightening down smoothly into the case body. As with all watches officially issued by the British armed forces, this one is signed on the rear with its type and reference number, together with the evocative military broad arrow emblem with reference numbers that read: - 6645 101000 - 6B/542 - 2820/53. Unscrew the case back and you will that Inner case back is also fully hallmarked by Omega and correctly referenced OMEGA WATCH CO, FAB SUISSE SWISS MADE, ACIER STAYBRITE 2777-1 SC. There is also the original antimagnetic cage or dust cover to protect the movement. One of the most interesting features about military watches is that in most cases, issue records are kept by the Army, Navy and RAF that can identify a particular watch from the details above to a particular serviceman that has been issued with the watch. Fixed lugs allow the military strap to go through, thus providing a stronger hold (than the normal flexible pins fixed on civilian watches) to rough out through the critical condition during war time. This is an important feature of a military issue watch, evidencing its age and authenticity as an army watch issued for the war. IWC MARK XI RAF PILOTS WATCH

In 1948, a celebrity was launched : the by now legendary Mark XI from IWC. AN EXTREMELY RARE JAEGER LECOULTRE MARK XI, RAAF, G6B MILITARY WATCH, Circa 1953. The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) made three separate purchases of the Mk 11 Navigator’s watch with the Store Reference Number G6B/346. The first two purchases in 1950 and 1953 were from Jaeger-LeCoultre (JLC) and the last, from the International Watch Company.

D/ NEAR MINT Condition Original dial with full numeric luminous markers. Signed JAEGER LECOULTRE. Original hands set with sweep seconds hand. C/ Original screw back case with various hallmarks and numbers. In very very good condition. The RAAF Vocabulary of Stores (as described in AAP 281, 2nd edition September 1943, "Standard Notes for Equipment Personnel") classified the various equipment into Groups, Sections and Parts. The "G" group is Electrical Stores, Instruments and Aircraft Personnel Equipment and to this was added the Section, “6B” for Navigational Equipment and the part "346". On the back, 264/53 indicate the serial number/year. With original Antimagnetic dust cover made of soft iron encloses the movement. Original hands set with nice original patina matching the luminous markers. The original crystal has yellowed over the year & adds charm to the watch, we have removed it to show you the pearly white dial. We can replace it for you F.O.C. if you so desire. There is also the original antimagnetic cage or dust cover to protect the movement. Many manufacturers supplied www watches to the MoD but most were chrome plated cases with steel backs. Few, except the Cyma were made entirely of steel. The difference is dramatic. Chrome plated cases will not survive refurbishing or buffing of any kind and they have a much shorter lifespan. ZENITH TIME RECORDER

WHAT IS THAT ???? I EXCLAIMED WHEN MY FRIEND TOOK THIS OUT OF HIS BAG. TIME BOMB ???? GUESS THE CUSTOMS OFFICER AT THE AIRPORT HAD THE SAME FEELING TOO WHEN HE SAW THIS IN THE LUGGAGE. THAT EXPLAINED WHY HE SPENT SOME GOOD MINUTES EXAMINING THE ITEM, FLIPPING, LOCKING AND UNLOCKING IT TO SEE IF THERE IS A TIME BOMB HIDDEN SOMEWHERE (QUITE RISKY ACTUALLY AS HE COULD HAVE ACTIVATED THE BOMB IF IT WAS ONE) .......ANYWAY, TO HIS DISAPPOINTMENT, HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS ITEM EXCEPT THAT IT IS A DARN UNUSUAL ZENITH TIME RECORDER......... AND IT RUNS FOR 8 DAYS !!!!!

I am not sure of the history of this timepiece. From its grey coating and the black dial with luminous details, one some what tend to relate it to military operation...but for ???? well, it is for ZENITH to know and us to find out. If you know, please be generous to share the information... email us for everyone's benefit. There is a key (well 2 actually) signed ZENITH to lock the item from itchy hands. Unlock it and you see a paper disc signed ZENITH etc that is full of marks, probably marked by the protruding piece at the side to mark the time lapsed. On the back of the clock, you see two holes which means you can mount on the wall and use it as a normal BUT unusual 8 DAYS clock !!!!!!!!!!!
